Wichita & Kansas· AWD vs FWD

Do You Actually Need AWD in Wichita?

For most Wichita drivers, FWD with good tires is plenty. Here's when AWD is actually worth it.

Wichita's reality

Wichita is flat, streets get plowed, and winter is short. Front-wheel drive with a good set of all-season (or winter) tires handles our conditions for the vast majority of drivers.

When AWD earns its keep

  • You live on a gravel road or outside the plow route
  • You tow or head to the lake regularly
  • You simply want extra confidence in bad weather

The cost of AWD

AWD adds up front cost, slightly worse fuel economy, and a bit more maintenance. It's worth knowing that before paying for it.

The honest answer

For most people here, AWD is a "nice to have," not a need. Spend the difference on a better trim or keep it in your pocket.

Frequently asked

Are winter tires better than AWD?

For stopping and turning on snow, winter tires help more than AWD. AWD mainly helps you get going.
