New vs Used: Which Should You Buy?

There's no universal right answer—here's how to think about it for your situation.

Andrew Woods August 15, 2026

It depends on the deal and the driver

New cars come with a full warranty and the latest tech, but lose value quickly in the first year. Used cars cost less and someone else took the depreciation hit, but carry more unknowns.

When new makes sense

  • You keep cars 8+ years (you absorb the depreciation)
  • There's a low-APR or incentive deal
  • You want the newest safety tech

When used makes sense

  • You want the best value per dollar
  • You're comfortable with a pre-purchase inspection
  • You want lower insurance costs

Certified pre-owned

CPO sits in the middle: a used car with a manufacturer-backed warranty and inspection. Often the sweet spot for value plus peace of mind.

New vs used for Wichita drivers

Wichita's used market tends to hold value well because local buyers keep cars longer, and a clean used Honda with a pre-purchase inspection is often the best value-per-dollar you'll find here. If you want the newest safety tech and plan to keep the car eight-plus years, new still makes sense—but for most Wichita commuters, a lightly used or certified pre-owned Honda delivers nearly the same experience for thousands less. I'm happy to walk you through what's actually available locally.

Frequently asked

Is a CPO car worth it?

Often yes. You get a manufacturer warranty and inspection for less than new, which is a strong value for many buyers.
